Known for its production of commercial vehicles and heavy trucks worldwide, Isuzu Motors was officially established in April 1937 as the people behind the company took the name from a river in Japan. Formerly a joint effort by a number of companies, the Isuzu name was formally adopted by these companies in 1949 although they have been manufacturing vehicles since 1922. After several decades of successfully selling their vehicles to the American people and a number of partnerships and joint ventures with General Motors and Subaru, Isuzu Motors decided to focus in manufacturing and improving the diesel engine. This move proved to be a success, as Isuzu went on to produce 16 million diesel engines in 2003, which can be found worldwide
